The ISSF Academy B Course has concluded at the Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja, Finland on August 29, 2026.

The course brought together 40 coaches from 26 countries for an intensive week of learning, personal development and international collaboration following multi weeks of online courses.

Overview of the B-Level:

  • Position: It is the third tier in the four-level qualification structure (D-Level foundational, C-Level intermediate, B-Level advanced, and A-Level elite). An ISSF-B licensed coach is considered as National Team level and is qualified to coach athletes to compete in the Olympics, World Championships and World Cups.
  • Focus: Creating a professional training environment, encouraging personal growth, and applying sports science rather than just basic mechanics.
  • Format: It uses a hybrid model featuring a multi-week online self-study and live lectures, followed by an intensive in-person contact phase (often hosted at specialized sporting institutes).

Following his success in the ISSF-B license, Tony is actively pursuing his ISSF-A Level Coach Certification which is the elite and highest-tier coaching qualification offered by the ISSF for coaches who aim for winning medals in international and Olympic-level shooting sport. The A-Level Coach Course is normally held once per year, capping participation to a small elite cohort (around 20-30 from the world).

Tony competes internationally, and coaches 10m and 25m disciplines in many ranges across BC in his spare time aside from time spent with his family and a full time job. He has been elected and served from 2023 - 2025 as the PSTO director in the Shooting Federation Canada (the SFC), the governing party of the Olympics shooting Sports in Canada. Since 2024 he serves as the Pistol Director of the BC Target Sports Association, which is the provincial organization of Olympics shooting sports in BC.

His focuses in the sport are following:

  • To promote the Olympics/ISSF pistol shooting sport. He has built and is now managing programs across the shooting ranges and organizations in BC, to involve new and young shooters and to build the training and competing environment for the sport.
  • To assist the development of High Performance Athletes in training and competing. While participating in matches of various levels (local, provincial, national, and international), Tony balanced his own competing with providing free and equal services such as coach advice and gun-smithing to other competitors from all over - other clubs, provinces, or countries - to encourage their best possible performance.
  • To develop High Performance Athletes in BC. Athletes under his direct coaching include members of the Canadian National Team, and are on their individual pathways to the L.A. 2028 Olympics. He expects to send more athletes to the High Performance team of Canada in 2026.
  • To develop new pistol coaches in Canada as a Learning Facilitator (a.k.a. coaching instructor) and a coach certifier, ensuring resources are available and easily accessible for any athletes in need.
